The Man Behind the Company

Patrick A. Ortiz

Raised in Ohio, Pat decided he was going to move to California at the age of 18. He took business and geology courses at Kent State University , and earned a degree at Santa Ana College . During the early part of his career, Pat worked for Vinnell Corporation and Robert E. Fulton Company. He then moved to Kasler Corporation, and spent 14 years there holding positions such as Assistant Equipment Manager, Risk Manager, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Estimator, and Area Manager. At Kasler, Pat worked on a variety of jobs, including building the Vandenberg Space Shuttle Launch Pad, for which he was Project Superintendent, and the LAX Second Level Roadway.

With his experience, dedication, and hard work he was able to build Ortiz Enterprises Inc., in 1986. Pat is unlike any other owner in the business, he gets involved in every aspect of the company. As the CEO and Manager, Pat has lead the company through the years, and seen annual revenues grow to more than 500 times what they were at the start. He also expresses that good leadership is nothing with out a good team. He always puts the employees needs first and makes sure they are taken care of because he recognizes their hard work. Most of the employees have been with the company for10-30 years. Every employee has the same thing to say about Mr. Ortiz and that is that he is one of the most caring, giving and humble people. He is truly one of a kind and the team is grateful to have him as a leader.

Pat holds true to being family oriented. The whole Ortiz family is involved in the success of the company. Jill, Pat's wife of over 40 years, worked by his side when the company was just starting out. For the first 10 years, she ran the office, and managed to balance that with creating a nurturing home life for the couple's three children. Pat readily acknowledges that the company couldn't have gotten off the ground without her. Their youngest daughter Leigh worked for the company for 17 years and recently pursued a career in education. Jeff Ortiz, only son, is going on 19 years with the company. He is currently the Safety Manager and Project Engineer. Michelle, eldest of the three, has pursued a career as a teacher, while her husband, Paul Navarro signed on with the company in 2005 as a Carpenter Foreman and now is the Structures Superintendent.

Pat Ortiz also makes time to give back to the community. He is dedicated to various Catholic charities where his strong faith and generosity are focused on providing assistance and encouragement to individuals in need. He and Jill have been members of The Order of Malta for over 20 years and have been recipients of many awards and honors for their great contribution.
